It Was Inevitable...

Well, it certainly was inevitable. Following along the natural progression of things, it’s only right that I was tricked in easily persuaded to try another craft. I may have to open an Etsy shop just to support my crafting habit (I’m not kidding). Sheesh. Before I tell you what the new craft is, although I’m sure you can guess based on my last post, let me give you a little background.

In my last post, I posted some stitch markers that I whipped up out of the blue. I have a bead shop near my job on Broadway (Mecca of all things Bootleg) that I go in some times and buy little sparkly things when the mood hits but I never spend much. So my enabler buddy Shameka offers to show me how to bend T pin wire to get the perfect loop for my stitch markers. Kewl Beans! We have a little get together at my place because we couldn’t think of any place in the city where we could convene and not have people looking at us like we had two heads or something. After we finished catching up we went right to the knitty gritty of beading. OMG, my eyes have seen the light. She bought with her some of the loveliest beads I had ever seen. She even had the nerve to have on a pair of earrings that she made herself. Of course I forgot to take a picture of them but they were gawjus (Hint: Shameka please post pics of your jewelry on your blog, thankyouverymuch). Being the enabler friend that she is, she even showed me this place online. Time must have been running in hyper speed or something but before we both knew it, she had to get going. After she left, I had to practice my new skill so I stayed up past midnight making stitch markers. I can say right then and there is when I became obsessed.

By the end of the week, I had ran through Beads World and Toho Shoji. I’m in bling bling heaven. Of course I had to try my hand at a pair of earrings but I need bigger beads and a lot more practice (Hint: Shameka, there are still things you need to teach me so whens the next get together?). I need another job, that’s what I need. I have no idea what I’ll do with all these stitch markers but all I know is that making these sparkly little rays of sunshine makes me smile inside.

Oh, and I got a new toy which I will talk about next post but here’s a preview.
I really need to get that Etsy shop going.

Happy Craftin

Wow, that is a lot of stitch markers! The green ones are my favorite. How much do you think they will cost?

I feel so honored to have "enabled" or "tricked" you into this new passion. Beading is another animal all in itself, and you will soon find yourself being torn between the two. I am really proud of you....girl, you learn fast!!! I especially love the PURL ones. I think they are a great tool for beginners who sometimes forget when to knit and purl. As for the earrings, I actually wore them today. I will post as soon as I can find someone to take a picture of me wearing them. We will meet up really soon I promise. I am just really busy this week, because I have been knitting as well as designing a logo and webpage for a friend of mine. One lesson I have learned. When you develop one talent, new ones follow quickly behind. Oh, there is so much to knit, and so little time.

Girl You've really been bitten by the bug. That was how I was the first time I ever made stitch markers and now I want to make jewelry too. However I am torn between all my crafting loves. Sometimes knitting win out. But the next time you have a get together about beading give me a call because I could still learn a lot more, especially since i would love to make my own jewelry.

My goodness you are crafty. You could do personalized ones, you know, like "Annie Knits". Just a suggestion.

Love the leaf ones. I'm afraid to try much else, getting a wheel & I'll have 2 stashes, if I add beading we may have to move to accomodate a third stash.

When I decided to knit my first shawl, I also decided to make a few stitch markers. I bought what I needed and made the stitch markers for the pattern. I only needed 4, I ended up making 50--yes, 5-0. It became another obession. Thank goodness I ran out of beads, but I have 75 sterling silver 2" straight pins that are just begging to be converted into markers. I love your markers. The "Purl" is a great touch.

Wheeeee lil eyeballs! LOL

I wish I could make it to more Meetup things but too many are on weeknights when I'm at work...right now I'm not getting to anything in the city because of a mystery neuropathy in both legs (that bloodwork, EMG, CT and MRI cannot diagnose) which has me on short term disability for the moment...

I'm loving my Victoria...and no she's not a replacement for my Rose...she's more like Rosie's lil sister...

I'll totally trade you some stitch markers for some handspun! If single ply, hand dyed, heavy-worsted weight and about 100 yds in your favorite color sounds like something you're interested in, let me know! Email is nomoresweaters (at) gmail (dot) com.

Girl, you have been on the move! It's great to have another passion! Different mediums feed off each other for inspiration. Plus, sometimes your hands need a different movement.

I'ma holla at you in a minute!
