Jumping on the Fiber Bandwagon

I saw a couple of posts around the blogosphere claiming to "Flash Your Fiber Stash", Well alrighty then, here you go.

For some reason, I thought I had a lot more fiber than this. I'm not going to list every single item, but most of the undyed stuff is corriedale and merino. Let's just say it's all wool. Now on to the fleece.

I scored the Romney (grey) and Border Leicester (black) locs at Rhinebeck. The other two honey colord fiber is Mohair which I got to card with the Romney to spin for some socks. The white in the mesh bag is some grease wool (Merino) that I scored a while ago. Dag, I got a lot of work on my hands.

Is Romney a popular fiber? It seems that a couple of folks I know go crazy over the stuff and I was wondering what the appeal is. I'm not a spinner so my question is coming from PURE ignorance :D

Nik,
In my opinion Romney is a popular fiber because it's one of the easiest to spin. The Romney I have is not as soft as others that I have felt but it is very durable. Plus I like to spin long stapled fibers and Romney is one of them.

And why aren't you a spinner.....I am the #1 spinning advocate and it's not that hard. The only thing I can say against it is that it is very addictive and you will find that this new hobby will take over (but in a good way). If you ever get started, let me know and I'll offer you my advice.

That's a sizable stash for a beginning spinner. And ooh what's the red, black, green(?) braid of fiber smack in the middle of the top picture?? That's a darn pretty roving!!!

Wow what a collection, it sure looks like a lot of work spinning but I guess once you get started it goes by fairly quick especially when you get into a groove.

Oh yeah, I loved the socks.

I think it is so cool that you spin. I don't know if I have the patience to take on that challenge. I can't wait to see the socks and other wonderful things you're going to make out of them.

By the way, I think typepad makes it a lot more easier and faster to upload the pictures. I think it's a bit more organized then blogspot and there's more options.
